Kovack's Weekly Report Includes Tax Bill Due Date
Michael E. Kovack, Medina County Auditor, released his Weekly Report with county revenue information, housing and commercial sales and important informational updates including due date for taxes.

Medina County Auditor Michael E. Kovack today released the following information regarding county finances for the week of January 15, 2010 through January 22, 2010:
Overall revenues for the county this week were $5,264,640.65. The largest sources of income were from the county sales tax for $744,438.64 and the school sales tax for $731,834.71. The Auditor’s Accounting Department disbursed 700 checks for total expenditures of $1,135,143.77. The Commissioner-approved expenditures totaled $817,665.54. No vendor’s licenses were issued for new businesses this week. There were 1153 dog tags sold for a total of $13,836.
Interested citizens can review individual expenditures of the county on the Auditor’s website at www.medinacountyauditor.org. Click on “County Expenses” on the left hand side.
There were 61 residential home transfers this week. The average sale price for a home in Medina County this week was $151,960. The fees collected for residential transfers were $12,724.20. There were 2 commercial transfers this week for an average sales price of $12,000.
Auditor Kovack announced that the 2010 Property Records and Tax Bills are now on-line. Go to www.medinacountyauditor.org and click on 2010 Property Records and Tax Bills now available. For Property Records, simply type in your name under Owner and then click “Submit.” You need not fill in anything else. When your property record comes up, click on “Tax Bill” at the top and it will bring up your new tax bill. The treasurer’s office said that tax bills were mailed on January 21, 2010 and are due by February 12, 2010.
Homeowners 65 years or older this year, or those totally and permanently disabled, can apply for the Homestead Exemption. If you have already applied, you need not do so again. Eligible homeowners are allowed to shield $25,000 worth of the market value of their home from local property taxes. For example, the owner of a $100,000 home who is eligible for the Homestead Exemption would be billed as if the home was worth $75,000. Depending on the taxing district, this can bring considerable savings of up to approximately $450 per year, depending on the tax district.
