"I am very happy to have earned this certification," Bridges said. "It represents a personal milestone for me, and it provides a big boost to the validation level for both L5 Computers and L5 Network Security."
The CISM is a unique-management focused certification that has been earned by only 13,000 professionals worldwide since its introduction in 2003, and the study curriculum is primarily directed to the individuals who manage, design, oversee and assess an enterprise's information security program.
In addition to the CISM, Bridges also holds the CISSP designation, which is considered to be the 'Gold Standard' in Corporate Security. The CISSP is awarded by (ISC)².
"To me, the CISM and CISSP represent a significant departure from many other certifications," Bridges noted. "Each certification involves a very competitive and comprehensive testing process, as well as a requirement for validated real-world experience." He added that both certifications have a 'vendor neutral' focus, meaning that the concepts are applicable to any network regardless of the choice of operating system or infrastructure."Both organizations require ongoing professional education to maintain the credential, something not a lot of certifications require. You don't just pass a test and then get a 'Forever Cert'. Like Security itself, this is a process ...."
Instead of testing for technology at the system level, the CISM is focused on a much larger scale. The general view of the certification is pointed toward Fortune 500 companies or larger, so the focus works with the top-level view of the organization - the Senior Management view. Bridges agrees with that focus. "Risk associated with the organization itself should always drive any Security program first - from an Information Security view, it's all about managing the Risk to the organization from the Information point of view."
Bridges adds, "In my experience, many of the challenges that Fortune-sized companies face are nearly exactly the same as those of most medium-size businesses. That is where I see that the CISM shines, because it focuses in that direction right from the beginning. That knowledge can be used with companies at any level and any size, so it is truly beneficial for the vast majority of clients."
