LACKAWANNA SQUADRON OFFERS BOATING COURSE
Lackawanna Sail & Power Squadron will teach America’s Boating Course, a safe boating course approved by the State of New Jersey. The class meets on four Tuesday nights, starting on February 9, 2010 at the Montville Township Public Library. Classes run from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Students receive the certificate required to operate a power vessel or personal watercraft (PWC) in New Jersey.
The course is designed for all boaters, power and sail. As boating is often a family activity, all members in a family are encouraged to attend as a group.
Subjects include: boat handling under normal conditions; adverse conditions and emergencies; types of boats and boating terminology; required and recommended equipment; boating regulations and navigation rules; lines and knots; aids to navigation; marine radiotelephone usage; trailer boating; personal water craft. The student manual will serve as a reference book in basic boating long after the course work is completed.
The course meets the standards of the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators, and features a proctored examination as required by the State of New Jersey and many insurance companies.
The enthusiastic and experienced instructors are members of the Lackawanna Sail & Power Squadron (www.lackawanna.org), a unit of the United States Power Squadrons (www.usps.org) in which boating education is a traditional public service. Since 1914 local squadrons such as Lackawanna have presented courses to anyone who wished to attend – to date more than 3 million people nationwide.
The cost of the course is $70.00 per person, which includes course material. For further information, call 973 402-2672 or e-mail publiced@lackawanna.org. To register, visit www.lackawanna.org. Registration closes on February 3; no applications will be accepted past that date.
