“No business owner wants to get hit with a fine, whether it’s from OSHA, state or local authorities” says Compliance Signs Inc. President Paul Sandefer. “Our new line of Kansas Clean Air signs and labels is the easy way to avoid trouble. They include state-specific information, they’re durable and they’re available in a variety of styles to match any business décor.”

The Kansas Clean Indoor Air Act (HB 2221) covers any public place, workplace, restaurant, bar and within 10 feet of any doorway, open window or air intake where smoking is prohibited.

Fines for business owners, operators and smokers start at $100 for a first violation and go as high as $500 for additional violations within one year. Each individual smoking in an establishment where smoking is prohibited is a separate violation for the business.

“These fines can really add up,” says Sandefer. “Posting appropriate signs is a cost-effective way to communicate the new law to employees and visitors.”

Kansas Clean Air signs available from ComplianceSigns.com include:
Premium framed signs with a 6" x 9" brushed metal plate recessed in an oak, mahogany or black wood frame
Designer plaques with a 6" x 8" brushed metal plate mounted to a wooden plaque with walnut, cherry or gloss black finish
Standard signs and labels in a variety of sizes and industrial-quality materials: self-adhesive label, rigid plastic, sturdy aluminum or flexible magnetic

Clear labels designed for use on building and vehicle windows

Regarding the new law, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment advises business owners to:
• Adopt a written smoking policy to prohibit smoking in all areas of employment and communicate this policy to all current employees and all new employees upon hiring.
• Remove all ashtrays and matches.
Post a no smoking sign.
• Ask any person violating the law to stop smoking.
• Refuse service to any person who continues to violate the law.
• Ask any person violating the law to leave.

• Notify law enforcement if the person refuses to comply.

For more information on the new law, contact the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
