There was standing room only as people listened to Mayor Edward Hagedorn and Gerry's brother talk. Tears filled many eyes as they watched and listened to the heart moving words of Mayor Hagedorn .

The mayor had earlier visited the jail that was holding the 2nd person that was arrested in the murder of Dr. Gerry Ortega. "Dennis Aranas" was one of the 3 suspects that was identified by CCTV video footage at the Puerto Princesa Airport. Marlon Recamata Dichaves , the gunman is already in custody and two others are still at large, but the net is closing in on them. Chief Supt. Artemio Hicban, the Mimaropa police director has confirmed the arrest. Police have filed murder charges against Junjun Bomar, Aranas, Romeo Seratubias, a former official of the Palawan provincial government and Armando Noel Loria. Police investigators said the plot to kill Dr. Gerry Ortega was conceived in Pagbilao, Quezon. Aranas, Dichaves, and Loria were all from Pagbilao were Dichaves was the appointed hitman assigned to murder Dr. Ortega. JunJun Bomar is the link between the mastermind and the group that was hired to carry out the murder. Dennis Aranas the 2nd suspect was told to scratch off the serial number of the gun by his recruiter . Junjun Bomar was the person that gave the instructions. Aranans was referring to Romeo Seratubias who owned the .45Cal. handgun that was used in the murder of Dr. Gerry Ortega. Seratubias served as provincial legal officer and provincial administrator. He told police he has sold the gun to Armando Noel Loria allas Salbakuta. Police said the Loria was one of the gunman that came to Puerto Princesa on a plane Jan 19th 2011.
"His death will not be in vain. We will make sure that Gerry’s dreams for Palawan will come true,” Gina Lopez of ABS-CBN said. Dr Ortega had a daily radio program and was project manager of ABC-CBN foundation's program in Puerto Princesa City.

He had repeatedly attacked certain provincial government officials and mining companies on allegations of corruption and graft. At the public gymnasium in Aborlan recognition was given to the 3 fireman that caught the gunman. “If not for them, we would not have been able to capture the gunman who would have been able to lose himself in traffic after he shot Gerry,” Arnel Ortega, the victim’s brother, said.
I was warned not to write about this from a close friend that has connections in the news media, but I cannot let this go by without speaking out. Gerry was a good friend of mine and I am mad enough not to care at this point. My friend Mayor Edward Hagedorn has vowed to see this to the end and has taken this murder very personally. I have never known the mayor to not do what he says, he is a man of his word and as everyone can see he has spearheaded the investigation to capturing 2 men responsible already, and has many investigators closing in on the others.

At the service for Gerry Ortega in Aborlan, Mayor Edward Hagedorn not only spoke from the heart to the thousands of people that attended the service from all over Puerto Princesa, but he also sang 2 songs with the choir that brought tears to his eyes as he sang from his heart . I had tears in my eyes listening to the beautiful songs he chose to sing. One of the mayors favorites, " Thank you Lord" was pitch perfect and one could hardly hold back the emotions that it stirred inside ones heart as they listened to the mayor sing to his very close friend Gerry Ortega. I am sure that we all will remember this wonderful tribute that Mayor Hagedorn honored Gerry with. I have known the mayor for a long time, and I have never heard him sing so well... the angels were sending the spirit to him on this special day. I will always remember this moment. I am honored to know such a kind and special person as Dr. Gerry Ortega, he made a difference in my life and has left his spirit for me to always feel in my heart. .. . Gerry was a man that made a difference in this world, he stood up for all of us and was killed for his strong beliefs in helping our environment and the many issues at hand that are hurting it. Even after he was warned months ago to back off, he still continued without fear to speak out against the illegal mining companies and those taking graft to help them continue to rape our earth in Palawan. I have found it hard to find the words to express how wonderful this man was to me, and all the others that he has touched while he was alive. It is clear that he will continue to touch us all even in his death, because now everyone has stood up in arms and has decided to vote to do somethings about it.
