Author Arliss Adams’ new “Twist of Fate” series debuts with two compelling novels. In the first book, Devil’s Dance, which will release in August 2010, teenage ballerina Jen Connor is on the brink of achieving what she has dedicated her life to—a contract with a major ballet company. But, her dream is shattered when her mother refuses to sign the contract. The opening scene finds her drugged, bound and gagged in a strange bedroom. The depressed teenager has been kidnapped by people she thought were friends and sold to a high-class brothel. There she is beaten and left for dead in a vacant lot. But she survives.

The plot is something we think will never happen to anyone we know, yet similar tragedies fill the papers and the media...such true stories have prevailed throughout the years. This book is set in 1957. Earlier in 2010 a news story broke about a young girl who was lured to her friend’s home in California, kidnapped by the friend’s father and sold to a brothel. She managed to escape and tell her story. July 28, 2010, Los Angeles Times: Community remembers slain Moreno Valley teen. “Investigators found her purse as well as signs of a struggle in a vacant field along Cottonwood Avenue, a shortcut she took to a friend’s house every day. Norma’s body was found in a field on the eastern edge of town five days later…”

While this, and all of the stories of kidnapped young women that fill the media are not the story in Devil’s Dance, Adams says the news items cited above are only two examples of similar situations. The difference is that they are real. Jen Connor’sstory continues in The Devil’s Due, to be released in September 2010. As an adult with a successful career in the theater a chance encounter with an old enemy drives her to seek retribution.

Although these books are fiction, the threat is very real. Adams dedicates her books to “all of the young girls and young women who have suffered kidnap and rape experiences—those who have survived and those who have not.”
