You could also check the garage door chain or belt, garage door balance, oil the tracks, sheaves, rollers and hinges or change the opener remote control batteries,” he said.

He said most homeowners do not pay attention to what their garage door is doing or saying to them.

“Imagine opening your garage door and you hear a loud clanging noise. Most homeowners hear this every day and just ignore them. It could mean that something is not right with your door but if you are not paying attention, you will miss it,” he said.

Douglas said it is always a mistake for homeowners to wait until the door actually breaks before calling in the experts.

“By the time your garage door breaks, it is already too late. You should never wait that long. If you are paying attention to your door, you will notice a difference in the way it operates and this should alert you to problems before they turn into major issues,” he said.
