Latin American & Caribbean Tyre Expo prepares for 2012 show

Attendance nearly doubled in 2011 from the inaugural event in 2010. According to show promoters, about 2,100 people attended the Expo, including about 1,600 tire dealers. More than 100 exhibitors — including 24 U.S-based companies — participated.

U.S. exhibitors included AME International Inc., American Omni Trading Co., Liberty Tire Recycling Inc., Meyers Tire Supply Inc., South Dade Automotive Inc.; and Tire Group International. Show promoters said 54 percent of the available booth space for the 2012 expo has already been spoken for.

During the show, non-Latin exhibitors and visitors were treated to a taste of Latin culture, with an opening ceremony and party that included local music, food and Panamanian Carnival Queens in costume. The event was sponsored by Chinese tire maker Sailun Co. Ltd. Guest speakers during the expo included Oscar Rodriguez, president of Bridgestone de Costa Rica S.A.; Heriberto Romero, director general of Hules Banda S.A. de C.V., a Mexico-based retread materials and systems manufacturer; Robert Sherkin, chairman and CEO of Toronto-based Dynamic Tire Corp.; and Tom DuPont, manager of grading operations for Liberty Tire Recycling.

Latin Expo Group Ltd., a Panamanian trade group, is organizing a tire exhibition and conference for Latin American and Caribbean tire distributors in Panama City, Panama, July 25-28, 2012. The event, Latin American & Caribbean Tyre Expo 2012, will be held at the Atlapa Convention Center in Panama City, according to the organizer. Latin Expo is in the process of organizing a program of international tire industry speakers to accompany the exposition, according to a spokesman for the group, who said the groups vision is to bring the global manufacturers and suppliers directly to the Latin markets and to get the Latin dealers to those manufacturers in a familiar and inexpensive venue.

Panama is strategically located in an isthmus that is geographically located between North, Central, and South America. Panama is very close and accessible to all the Caribbean countries.
