Lawyers in NYC are accustomed to dealing with difficult cases. They are legal professionals who will not stop until justice has been served to the victims of police brutality.
In June, 2011 five police officers sustained injuries after a “brawl erupted” in New York’s Lower East Side. The so-called brawl occurred outside of a popular night club in the area early on Wednesday morning. A party was being held for the release of a popular hip-hop artist’s newest album.
According to CBS News, police were called to the nightclub to address issues of overcrowding. NYPD officials state that they received information that described the crowd as “unruly.” They also state that upon arrival many clubgoers began to resist arrest.
They maintain that a “melee” ensued and many people began to assault police officers. Five officers were hospitalized. One had a broken nose, another had a broken tooth, one sustained lacerations and two others had concussions.
As previously mentioned, lawyers in NYC have seen it all. They are able to get to the bottom of the facts and move forward appropriately within their legal abilities. Many of these clubgoers have sought legal counsel stating that, although the club was overcrowded, that the police used unnecessary force and at times were caught on tape beating and forcefully restraining people who were voluntarily leaving the club.
CBSlocal.com released a video that shows more than eight minutes of interactions between people leaving the club and the police officers who were called to the scene.
A person on the video is heard shouting “film this! film this!” in reference to the alleged police brutality that was ensuing.
One officer can be seen punching and kicking a man as he is being led out of the club. As the man’s friends try to intervene, they are also met with punches, kicks, and baton strikes by the police officers. Some bystanders and pedestrians report that they were beaten with batons when they approached the mob out of curiosity.
Situations like this one are tricky and they are not uncommon. There is a very fine line between using necessary force and excessive force when it comes to crowd control by the police.
For this reason, lawyers in NYC are needed to clarify the situation, and to determine whether or not the alleged victims have a valid case under New York law.
However, if you find yourself in this situation and feel that you were a victim of police brutality, it is in your best interest to speak to a team of lawyers in NYC or in the city closest to you.
