http://campaignontario.wordpress.com/ Followers of the Wine and Beer Convenience Campaign are invited to share, download and prominently display the cartoon poster. This will help get the word out to all those in favour of changes to provincial liquor laws that make the LCBO and The Beer Store near exclusive retailers of wine and beer in Ontario.
The poster provides four options for Ontario politicians running for election to consider.
Option One
Allow a phased program in which the first year sees 250 GTA convenience stores licensed to sell wine and beer; at the same time permit the establishment of 150 VQA stores, offering Niagara wines, in the Toronto and the Niagara Regions.
Option Two
Allow 250 GTA convenience stores to sell wine and beer, the establishment of 150 Toronto-Niagara VQA stores and the opening of 400 new LCBO agency stores throughout Ontario.
Option Three
Allow the 7,500 stores represented by the Ontario Convenience Store Association to sell wine and beer across the province.
Option Four
Implement a phased regional program in which the first year sees the four GTA regions begin to administer their own beer and wine convenience store laws; revenue from convenience store beer and wine licenses would be collected by the regions.
There’s also a fifth option not captured by the poster.
Privatize the LCBO. Government would keep its regulatory role and the sale of liquor would be left to the private sector. This would create a more competitive market and improve convenience and selection for responsible consumers.
