http://campaignontario.wordpress.com/ Our politicians are not leaders in wielding the power of social media. The recent federal election campaign shows social media is beyond their grasp as a force for political influence. The public is a far more commanding expert at leveraging online persuasion to shape political debate and outcomes.
If, in your view, wine and beer at the corner store is an idea whose time has come, we encourage you to join our social media community. Share the Wine and Beer Convenience Campaign posts with your friends. Send our email letters and petition to those seeking votes in the upcoming election. On October 6, vote for the candidate who listens to and represents your interests.
Fully 63 percent of Ontarians want wine and beer available at their corner store according to a 2010 Angus Reid poll. The availability of wine and beer at Ontario convenience stores has not so much to do with the power of the LCBO or The Beer Store as it has to do with changing provincial liquor laws.
Our growing online community is already using social media clout to make their position clear as we head to the polls in the fall. Our provincial liquor laws need overhaul so that they reflect fair business competition principles, the rights of taxpayers, the will of voters and a changing society.
Society has indeed changed and our social media community is on track to tell politicians seeking election that wine and beer at Ontario convenience stores is an election issue now; not something for another time.
