Globetrotting sprinter Diabolical has been sold to Fred Alexander’s A&A Ranch in New Mexico to stand at stud. In a deal brokered by Taylor Made Sales Agency, Byron Rogers of Pedigree Consultants and Jason Litt of Litt Bloodstock, the multiple graded stakes winner retires to the leading New Mexico farm as the highest earning sprinter in the state.
A $300,000 two-year-old purchase who broke his maiden at first asking in July of his two-year-old year Diabolical won or placed in 19 stakes races in 32 starts, raced in five different countries, on both dirt and turf, and won at distances from 5 to 8½ furlongs.
The winner of the Saratoga Alfred G Vanderbilt H., Gr.2, and placed in the Carter H., Gr.1, Laurel Frank J de Francis Memorial Dash S., Gr.1, Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint S., L, Nad al Sheba Dubai Golden Shaheen, Gr.1, and the Singapore TC Krisflyer International Sprint, L, Diabolical equal the track record for six furlongs at Pimlico in winning the Pimlico Maryland Sprint H., Gr.3, and also returned Beyer speed figures of 126, 122 and 119 in his career which spanned four years.
Diabolical, who is inbred to the Champion sire Mr. Prospector via his champion 3-year-old male and Horse of the Year Conquistador Cielo and champion sprinter Gold Beauty, hails from the great Soaring family of leading sires Saint Ballado, Devil’s Bag and Rahy. Diabolical’s second dam Plenty of Grace won on both dirt and turf and counted the Santa Anita Yellow Ribbon S., Gr. 1, among her victories while his third dam, Wings of Grace, a grade three winner is also the dam of Soaring Softly, the Champion turf filly in USA in 1999 including wins in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf S., Gr. 1 and Belmont Flower Bowl H., Gr. 1.
“Diabolical was outstanding at two, a classic performer at three that stretched to a mile, and a top class older sprinter who raced on both dirt and turf and set track records over sprint distances,” said Fred Alexander of A&A Ranch. “He has a great female line with plenty of class. What is more pleasing for me is that he is a gorgeous horse to look at. He really has outstanding presence. I am delighted to be able to add him to the stallions available at A&A Ranch.” Alexander added.
