LEGACY BAND CELEBRATES PHILADELPHIA’S JAZZ HERO, GROVER WASHINGTON JR
The Philadelphia Legacy Band is honoring the godfather of urban contemporary jazz, Grover Washington Jr. Former band mates and local musicians inspired by his music will showcase some of his most memorable pieces. The tribute will be hosted at the school

WHAT: A tribute concert to reflect and celebrate the legendary and influential saxophonist, Grover Washington Jr., held at the school of his namesake. Former band mates of the late musician and talented youth of the Grover Washington Jr. Middle School will join on one stage for a jam session showcasing the contemporary smooth jazz medleys of one of Philadelphia’s greatest artists. For his dedication to the Philadelphia community and its children, proceeds of the tribute will benefit the music department at Grover Washington Jr. Middle School.
WHO: The Grover Washington Jr. Middle School, The Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz & Performing Arts, in collaboration with ArtsRising, present The Grover Washington Jr. Legacy Band, an ensemble of Philadelphia-affiliated jazz musicians and original band mates of Grover Washington Jr. to pay homage to the life and contribution of the musical titan.
WHEN: Thursday, June 2 at 7:00 p.m.
WHERE: Grover Washington, Jr. Middle School (201 E. Olney Avenue, Philadelphia)
ADMISSION: Tickets are $5/person; general seating
