Mesothelioma Awareness Day was landmarked by the Mesohelioma Applied Research Foundation (MARF) in 2005, although the date is not yet nationally recognized. Thousands of people nationwide have been affected by asbestos related mesothelioma. MARF has other ongoing awareness campaigns for Mesothelioma Awareness Day that included radio spots that air following a broadcast of any Warren Zevon material, large banners placed in busy New York City locations, and by encouraging Today Show audience members to create posters highlighting Mesothelioma Awareness Day. All efforts and participation can help MARF reach their goal of making Mesothelioma Awareness Day a nationally recognized and government supported and officially recognized. In the meantime, MARF encourages supporters to contact their local government to have the date officially recognized.
