There is ongoing speculation as to whether or not the singer's pre-mature death is related to her history of drug abuse.

Lt. Mark Rosen of the Beverly Hills Police department said that "no obvious signs of criminal intent" were found.

Houston was set to attend the 54th Annual Grammy Awards, and she performed Thursday night at a pre-Grammy award event hosted by singer Kenny Lattimore.

According to Lattimore when she sang "Jesus Loves Me" at the event her voice lacked the power it had at her peak, but her mood was good, and she was gregarious as she enjoyed the evening with Bobbi Kristina, her daughter, with ex-husband Bobby Brown and other friends and family.

Houston was to attend Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy gala, last night, which carried on as planned with the blessings of her family. In the wake of her final breaths which were taken only floors away from where the party took place. Davis dedicated the night to her.

Houston's controversial ex-husband, Bobby Brown, continued with his show in Mississippi, although he was said to be having “crying fits” and broke down minutes after taking the stage.

There has been an overwhelming out pour of sadness from fans and celebrities across the internet. Jimmy Jam, music producer, told CNN that he feels her death will significantly alter the sequence of events at the Grammys tonight, which will now include a tribute to her.

Larry King compared her death to that of Judy Garland, mother of Liza Minnelli, who died of a drug overdose at 47.

Record producer Quincy Jones texted CNN saying -"I am absolutely heartbroken at the news,"
Singer Lionel Richie told CNN that Houston was one of the best.

Houston's godmother, Aretha Franklin was devastated and said, “I just can't talk about it now."

Rev. Al Sharpton said he will call for a national prayer Sunday morning during a service at Second Baptist Church in Los Angeles.

Neil Portnow, CEO and Recording Academy President said, "A light has been dimmed in our music community today, and we extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, fans and all who have been touched by her beautiful voice."

Houston greatly influenced a younger generation of singers like Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera.

Houston's music and acting career spanned from the mid-eighties to the nineties, when it was cut short by drug abuse, which plummeted record sales because of her outlandish behavior and declining voice.

She was a six-time Grammy winner, and her hits include a rendition of Dolly Parton's “I Will Always Love You,” and “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” All of her albums sold in the millions and two reached over 10 million in sales in the U.S. alone – her debut album in 1985 and the soundtrack to the “The Bodyguard.”
Houston sold over 170 million albums, videos and singles, according to her official website.
Her movie career included:

1992 - “The Bodyguard.”
1995 - “Waiting To Exhale.”
1996 - “The Preachers Wife.”

She had recently returned to a movie set for a remake of a 1976 hit “Sparkle,” which is based loosely on The Supremes. According to Sony Pictures, the movie is due for release in August.

Whitney Houston, cousin to Dionne Warwick, was the youngest of three. She was born in Newark, New Jersey on August 9, 1963. Her mother Cissy Houston, who is still alive, was a soul singer who according to Houston's official website toured with Elvis and Houston's godmother Aretha Franklin.

Houston's untimely death is the latest in a string of lives cut short decades before they were supposed to. For more information on how drugs tumbled the castle of the song princess go to http://koraleep.hubpages.com/hub/Whitney-Houston-Has-Crack-Sucked-The-Soul-Out-Of-Another?done
