Lexus Basic Information

Luxury brand Lexus has gained a momentum of its own in the premium car market since re-launching in South Africa in 2006. The 2011 Johannesburg International Motor Show is the most exciting since then, with a true showcase of technical innovation and news for Lexus' future in SA. After all the spy shots and all the teasing, Lexus has finally unveiled the new 2013 Lexus GS 350 at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. This time, the company also exhibit their latest designed cars at the JHB International Motor Show 2011 .
For 2011, Lexus has made some slight but important additions to its small sports sedan the IS. The "young-gun" of the Lexus lineup, the IS has always catered more toward the driving experience than overall luxury i.e. the BMW 3-Series and Infiniti G cars. Even still, the little Lexus usually has to live in the shadow of the Bavarian bomber but Toyota's luxury division decided to change that with the added F Sport package for the IS 350 and 250.

Lexus announced the introduction of the IS 350 to South Africa in November. And South Africa will be one of the few international markets to enjoy the performance sedan. With class-leading power, the IS 350 will challenge the status quo and throw another gauntlet down for the German triumvirate. It is said that the IS 350 is powered by Lexus' 3,5-litre V6 engine developing 233kW at 6 400 rpm, allowing 0-100km/h acceleration of 5,6 seconds. The IS 350 will be available in two model grades (EX and SE) already familiar to the IS range, as it driving the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shift.

The F Sport makes its case with simple additions like reworked body moldings, chassis tuning and very subtle engine tweaking. The suspension takes inspiration from the M3 level IS F and has been stiffened ever so much to make turn in crisper and the body more flat in corners. The F Sport package does not go so far down the sporting path that it becomes too stiff, like what happened to the IS F. The steering has been revised as well to make the electric power steering more communicative. New 18-inch wheels have been added to work with the more aggressive body work. The interior has been given a few touches as well for the F Sport with exclusive seats, steering wheel and scuff plates.
