With sharply defined and dramatically angled lines, and a distinctive trapezoid grille, the 2012 RX shares many design cues with the current Lexus sedans. It also features standard 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels and can be outfitted with available 19-inch seven-spoke alloy wheels that are exclusive to the RX.

Bluetooth® and USB Audio Support

Compatible portable audio players enabled with Bluetooth audio [1] profile capability can be controlled using the onboard audio system in the RX—all while remaining in your pocket or purse. An available USB connection offers an even greater degree of control of your compatible iPod® [2] audio player, providing access to your entire music library through the RX interface. This connection enables you to view artist, track and album names on the audio or available navigation screen and has the added benefit of powering the player whenever it is plugged in.

3.5-liter V6 Engine

Delivering more horsepower and torque than the previous generation RX, the 3.5-liter engine makes 90 percent of its peak torque available in a low rpm range for incredibly responsive power at all engine speeds. All the while providing greater fuel efficiency. The RX also employs a Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) system that optimizes both the intake and exhaust valve timing throughout the rpm range, according to engine and driving conditions. The system continuously monitors the engine's speed and load to respond to the driver's demands. This helps provide improved fuel efficiency, lower exhaust emissions and optimize power across all driving ranges. Torque is increased at lower speeds for better thrust. And power is boosted at higher speeds for better acceleration.

Voice-Recognition Technology

The RX comes equipped with a highly advanced voice-recognition system that offers a much higher recognition rate than conventional systems. With this technology, placing compatible Bluetooth® [1] enabled phone calls and operating commonly used features like climate control and audio is remarkably simple. With the available Navigation System [2], voice-recognition technology is taken to new heights with voice command. One of the most tested voice-recognition systems, voice command enables you to place compatible Bluetooth enabled phone calls and operate climate, audio and navigation functions using normal, everyday speech. If you say, "It's too hot in here," for example, the climate control will automatically lower the temperature by four degrees. "Call Steve at work" will be met with just that. And, if you say, "Show me Chinese restaurants," from the destination menu, the navigation screen will display locations in your surrounding area.

Active Torque Control AWD

Using a network of sensors that monitor such factors as G-force, steering angle, vehicle speed, braking and road conditions, the available Active Torque Control AWD system can deliver up to 50% of the available torque to the rear wheels only when it is necessary. During normal on-road driving, for instance, the RX sends 100% of the power to the front wheels for optimal fuel efficiency. Should the system sense the slightest amount of wheel slippage, it is designed to automatically allocate the necessary amount of power to all four wheels to help maintain traction. The system is so advanced, in fact, that it can predict your intended path around a turn and proactively provide the necessary amount of torque to help prevent front and rear wheel slip—whatever the road condition. A LOCK switch can be used to manually select a 50:50 torque split for enhanced low-speed traction in conditions like mud or snow. Once the RX reaches 25 mph, the LOCK switch automatically disengages.
