With direct sales, you won't have such astronomical costs. Yes, you have to do the legwork but you would have to do that with a storefront anyway.

Now that you know that lia sophia is a direct sales company, the next question you may ask yourself is, is direct sales for me?
I can't answer that for you but what I can tell you is this. If you don't mind not having a storefront and love talking to people, then direct sales could work for you.
Things to consider... no storefront = talking to lots of people. If people can't see your store, you need to go to them. And even if you had a store, if people don't know it's there, you still need to talk to a lot of people. So, think of it this way. You would still need to do marketing for your store so why not skip the expense of having a store in the first place? With having a store you've got a massive amount of overhead expenses like: staff, rent/mortgage of the building, lease/purchase of the land the building is on, utilities, insurance and so on. I think you get the idea. So what's in having a storefront anyway?

How do you create the buzz? There are tons of ways to get the word out there about you and your business that don't cost a cent! This is one of them. Do a press release. Can't write very well? Neither can I but I'm still giving it a go. More ways of networking that don't cost anything are any of the social networking sites out there like Facebook, YouTube, Squidoo and Twitter to name just a few. Also, take part in forums, you will meet a lot of people with common interests there. Write a blog. Don't forget about your inner circle. You would be surprised at who would be interested in what you have to offer. As long as you approach people in a casual way and don't be pushy, they really don't mind and some will become interested enough to ask you without you even bringing it up. By putting yourself out there, you create a buzz and soon people start to "follow" you. These people are showing interest in not only your business but you as a person and I think that's pretty cool!
Then of course if you choose, you can advertise in more traditional ways like going door to door (again, doesn't cost anything, just your time) and setting up a table at a fair or tradeshow. Newspapers, magazines and flyers are also other methods but can be a little pricey depending on the newspaper or magazine and whether you create and deliver the flyers yourself or if you use a professional. Whichever methods you choose you just need to use common sense and do your best not to spend a whole lot when you first start out. As you make money you can put some aside to reinvest back into the business and maybe try a different form of advertising. It may take a while to figure out what works best for you. But that goes for just about anything you try in life don't you think?
I love the freedom in direct sales and the ability it gives me to move my business from level to level at my own pace.
