The Team Doers presented the solar street lamps for rural areas, LIBA (Dhivya Daniel, Livingston Cruz, Arockia Marcena and Rini Dominica) emerged as the winner and Team Eureka presented a business plan for design of a mechanized assistant for domestic Indian Households (Robin Jude, Herbert Gnanaraj and John Anthony Jose), LIBA, as the runner up for the national level contest. Speaking on the occasion, Fr. Christie, Director, LIBA, said “It’s an event to catalyze social entrepreneurship amongst the youth, drive home social innovation and entrepreneurship and a place to mutually learn about effective solutions to the most pressing social problems of our country. LIBA is happy to announce that Post Idea conference – LIBA would be the first B school to set up an NSEF – Villgro student chapter in Chennai which will make sure events related to social entrepreneurship will be a regular feature at the campus”. The event is being hosted by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell and Beyond Management of LIBA. LIBA is also planning for a regular social entrepreneurship events to happen in order to provide a platform for the budding entrepreneurs and also regular industry interface from various backgrounds to address LIBA students and interact is an endeavour in this direction.
Gaurav Makkar, Director of the NSEF Said “The conference followed by ‘My Idea Program’- A social business plan competition, which is a platform for students working on innovative ideas to change the world. Competitors & budding entrepreneurs all over the city are highly enthusiastic about the one-day event that is the first of its kind in the region.”
One of fundamental aims of a university education is to prepare better citizens for the country. While the idea is an extremely noble one, most universities tend to focus on academic excellence as a means to achieve it. There is a dearth of systems that nurture and promote tomorrow's potential "change makers" within the student base.
