During the 1850’s the area around Lake Windermere was gradually developing an increasingly important tourist trade, the clients were wealthy and which although seasonal provided much needed income. No one would have thought that tourism would have grown to the huge market that it is today in the area. There were many local entrepreneurs based around Lake Windermere that naturally wanted to expand this trade and the development of the railway to Windermere helped give them their chance. The tourists then put a large demand on the area and there was then a need for more tourist facilities, from this the area and it’s tourist facilities grew and grew. The area still boasts magnificent houses from this time on Compston Road, Rothay Road and Church Street and many Windermere Country House Hotels. St Mary’s parish church was built after Sir George Gilbert Scott was commissioned for the job. This was finished in 1854 and its considerable size was an expression of the confidence felt at the time that prosperity was to continue to grow.

Lindeth Fell Country House Hotel is one of many Windermere Country Hotels on the lake. The countryside is perfect for walking that can start literally from the front door. If walking is not your thing there are many country walks that can begin from the door. For the less energetic or for rainy days there are several notable attractions nearby either in Windermere or in the local countryside; the nearest being Blackwell, the recently restored Arts and Crafts house half a mile up the road from Lake Windermere. Lindeth Fell is one of the most spectacular of the Windermere Hotels that was built in 1909 primarily as a private residence. It was later converted by the current owners, the Kennedy Family in the late 1970s and has been open to guests ever since. The hotel has changed dramatically over those years to meet the needs to customers with high expectations and the family and their dedicated team attempt to achieve this every day.

The views of the lakes and mountains can be enjoyed from the Lindeth Fell Coutry House Hotel. Lindeth Fell Country House Hotel is only a mile from bustling Bowness on Windermere, up on the hills overlooking Lake Windermere and the Coniston Fells. There are many Winderemere Hotels but the nice thing about Lindeth Fell is that it is a homely yet professional 14 bedroom hotel where guests can enjoy the views across Lake Windermere to the Coniston Mountain Range, the highest point being The Old Man of Coniston ~ 2635 feet. The hotel setting is a magical one of tranquility, close to the towns of Bowness and Windermere, with amazing views over the Thomas Mawson designed seven acres of gardens down to Lake Windermere itself.
