LIONS CLUB OF SAN LEANDRO KICKS OFF SENIOR WALKING PROGRAM

Oakland, Calif. – January 8, 2010 – The Lions Club of San Leandro has announced the founding of a senior walking program. The kick-off celebration will take place at the Carlton Plaza in San Leandro on January 13, 2010 from 1pm to 3pm. The Carlton Plaza is located at 1000 East 14th St., San Leandro, CA 94577. The celebration will include health talks by different health professionals, as well as access to health resources in the community. The celebration marks the start of a walking program that will include weekly walks at safe indoor locations around San Leandro. The program is designed to help seniors become more active for improved health and quality of life.

According to the founder of the senior walking program, Dr. Sally Scrutchin, D.C., “The program is designed to provide a fun, safe way for seniors to increase their activity levels. So many health problems can be helped by regular physical activity, such as walking. We want the senior community of San Leandro to become healthier and live longer.”

Motivated by increasing levels of preventable disease in the senior population, the Lions Club of San Leandro has teamed up with their community partners, the Carlton Plaza and Senior Moments, to start this program. Visit
