Philadelphia, PA - AUGUST 28, 2009 – Lives devastated by Hurricane Katrina are remembered in the song and video presentation of “Washed Away – The Ballad of Eddie Garrison” by Philadelphia area based singer-songwriter Ray Adkins, bringing to the fore the challenges still faced in New Orleans due to blight, unaffordable housing, and vulnerable flood protection four years after the catastrophic storm. The video can be seen at Ray Adkins Music
Adkins was inspired to write “The Ballad of Eddie Garrison” during a trip to the New Orleans Jazz Festival in the Spring of 2006, when he came upon personal items “washed away” along a gutter in the 9th ward, including trophies and awards bearing the name of Edward Garrison. A search for Eddie online offered no tangible leads, according to Adkins. “It’s our intention to make a focused effort to find Eddie by the 5th anniversary of Katrina,” he said, “to reach out to him and bring some sort of closure to those whose lives he has touched through this song.”
The video’s haunting images of post-storm devastation, including the remains found of Eddie’s life, along with photos capturing the region’s indomitable and undaunted spirit, are the backdrop of the Zydeco, Cajun, NOLA flavored ballad. Produced by Rick Denzien at Philadelphia area www.Slot-1.com Recording Studio, the song’s timeless appeal brings a socially conscious message evoking the emotions that moved millions of private citizens to reach out to Katrina victims and help rebuild New Orleans.
The song is available to organizations and others for creating continued awareness of the needs the region still faces. Any organization that can assist in locating Edward Garrison, and/or who would like to use the video for promotional purposes, can contact Slot-1 Studio at s1e@slot-1.com Rick Denzien is a producer / singer/songwriter working with national and regional acts.
