LMC Marketing asks: should we use iPad’s in our classrooms and save the trees?

May 24, 2011

A survey from PBS has revealed something amazing, for a £500-plus next-gen computing device: 70% of parents are happy to hand the iPad to their kids, and download child-friendly apps for them.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) May 24, 2011 -- Enhanced Facetime will be great for remote lectures or office hours, high-definition video editing will facilitate exploratory learning and reporting, and real-time image mirroring will stylize lectures in science, history, and geography. In addition, mobile learning is made possible through the iOS 4.3 hotspot update, permitting Internet connectivity for apple phones, tablets, and laptops.

This will be especially valuable for recession-hit school districts, which are scrambling for ways to solve expanding class sizes. The only other way to solve this dilemma is for school districts to ease the pressure of crammed classrooms by permitting exploratory research in museums, at gardens, or public libraries. With real-time communication via iPad, specific class times could still be maintained, so that all students are learning together for at least some period of the day.
Sceptical educators can be relieved that LMC Marketing can report that remote learning can be just as effective as in-class lecturing and that the introduction of the iPad into education system will not have a negative effect in the classroom. Many educators are eager to break students free from of the boring prison of concrete lecture halls and many universities, are integrating classrooms into mobile devices to keep students alert on due dates, keep discussions alive after the bell rings, and promote idea sharing throughout the holidays.

Apple’s new front-facing camera on the iPad 2 will facilitate interaction between students and teachers as they roam campuses and cities. This new feature also means that education isn’t restricted to just pupils within the same school. For language learning, many schools use Skype to connect promising speakers from different countries and finding a partner school will likely be even easier with Skype’s new online community for teachers.

LMC Marketing think this seems the best way forward with the only downside to this great technology is that the iPad could spell the end of cancelled days in school to bad weather! Sorry, kids.
