LMC Marketing have been following Eric Schmidt and observing how TV Makers plan to adopt Google TV within 5 years.
Google CEO Eric Schmidt has been generating new headlines for the Search Company.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) October 26, 2011 --
As reported in the Globe and Mail he announced: "Virtually all the television manufacturers will eventually adopt Google TV. The issue is getting that started, getting the applications built and so forth, and that's taken quite a while." LMC Marketing thinks that it certainly is big talk, but wonder if there is anything to back it up.
According to Zdnet.com, Google TV is software that places a Web browser on TV sets. One of the software's biggest drawbacks so far has been the lack of content available through it. All of the major TV networks have refused to allow Google TV to access their Web content. Schmidt said that Google continues to try to convince them to change their minds but it appears there are only two ways they will be able to get the networks to jump on board: pay big sums to license the content or try to challenge them in court; LMC Marketing does not think that Google will want to do either. He emphasized that Google TV will become much more popular with TV makers and he believes Logitech and Sony, the two manufacturers of devices featuring Google TV so far, are about to be joined by many more partners.
CNET news reports that Google is not the only large technology company to struggle to break into the living room. Last autumn, Apple launched the second generation of its Apple TV set-top box after the first version achieved limited popularity. This week it emerged that Apple has stopped renting low-cost digital episodes of TV shows to Apple TV. The system has limited storage capacity and so relies on streaming one-off rentals or pulling in downloaded content from another computer in the home. Last week, Mr. Schmidt paid tribute to Steve Jobs, who just stood down as chief executive of Apple as he struggles with illness.“He is the only person I’ve ever known who’s actually been able to merge the two worlds completely, with an artist’s eye as well as the definition of what great engineering is,” said Mr. Schmidt, who served on Apple’s board for three years.
LMC Marketing think it is only a matter of time before the powerful tech giants that are Google and Apple both break into the Television business and think that current living room favourites should start to worry.
