January 19, 2012 Real Estate news in Dixon,California, United States of America

The old saying, it's easier to spend other people's money has never been more appropriate than in Davis and the state of California

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dixon, California, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) January 19, 2012 --

The old saying, it’s easier to spend other people’s money has never been more appropriate than in Davis and the state of California. a couple of issues that have been proposed demonstrate how out-of-whack our local and state officials appear to be. The Yolo County Board of Supervisors voted to apply for a $46.9 million state grant to add 148 additional beds to the county jail. I’m not sure how you live, but the thought that a bed would cost over $300,000 a piece is absurd. I know space is tight, what about bunk beds, that would cure any need to waste money at all. I always assumed jail was and should be uncomfortable, not the Ritz Carlton. The renovation would add thirty-two single cell or sixty-four double cell beds in a new additional pod. Jailbirds get their own free pad or a single roommate. Back in my military days, it was common to have four to a room. We have a large segment of americans that are living on the street and we are worrying about how comfortable the criminal element lives.

How about the controversial Surface Water Project that would siphon water from the Sacramento River, treat it and pipe it into Davis and Woodland at an estimated cost of $340 million. These funds would be generated by increasing utility bills by double or triple the present rate for everyone in Davis and Woodland. This is noble cause, but how about we delay this project permanently or at least until the state starts recovering from the casino-like spending that has plagued this state for the last three decades. Our local and state officials should show restraint or even better, put a moratorium on any unnecessary future spending. Just imagine, this type of absurdity goes on in every town and community in California.

This insanity does not stop locally, the United States passed a crucial milestone in that our debt as a country is a staggering $15 trillion, which is now equal to the gross domestic product or our entire economy. In the fiscal year 2011, we paid $454 billion in interest on our national debt alone. That’s money that could have been spent on schools to better educate our children, or to help build affordable assisted-living homes for the elderly and other worthy causes. Because we have kept borrowing instead of forcing our leaders to balance the budget and tempering our own demands for public services, now we must pay the interest, largely to China and other foreign countries. As long as politicians keep on promising that the government will provide everything our hearts desire in exchange for our vote, and as long as we believe them, and as long we demand more services from government, nothing will change for the better.
