Macy’s customers can look, smell and do some good at the Art/Action/Experience event with local artist Daniel Cascardo Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011 at Somerset mall and Saturday Nov. 19, 2011 at Lakeside Mall. Shoppers will receive a free tote bag designed by Cascardo with the purchase of the True Religion fragrance, Hippie Chic.
The creative forces of Cascardo, Macy's and True Religion collide to celebrate True Religion’s new fragrance Hippie Chic while the acclaimed artist/muralist will be on hand to sign commissioned totes and create an original work of art. Cascardo will also showcase his Art/Action/Experience painting created with individuals at Turning Point, a shelter for victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
“This is a way for me to give back, I want to help our community heal through art,” said Cascardo.
“Art/Action/Experience is my process for creating paintings and allowing others to participate.”
Cascardo created a mural for Turning Point by painting a black and white line design and having individuals from the center paint in the white space with vibrant color, patterns and shapes. He then does a final edit to create a professional work of art. Cascardo wanted to work with people who have sought help from the center and engage them with the art making process.
As a self-taught artist, Cascardo has created a visual language through paintings, sculptures, and multimedia venues. His use of color, shapes, symbols, patterns and imaginative ideas evoke positive emotions and create a fun, interactive artistic experience. His murals can be found in Chicago, Dearborn, Ferndale and Detroit.
New Wave Fragrances, maker of Hippie Chic, has donated $20,000 to Turning Point and is hosting the Art/Action/Experience event to create awareness about the center and its mission in the community.
From 1 - 5 p.m next Saturday at Somerset and on Saturday Nov. 19 at Lakeside mall, Cascardo will be signing the specially designed tote bags for customers and painting a one-of-a-kind piece that customers may enter a drawing to win.
