Local Atlanta Firefighters Compete in Weight Loss MD's First Annual “Battle of the Boots” 2009

(Free-Press-Release.com) September 11, 2009 -- Weight Loss MD announces today that representatives from three local Atlanta firehouses will engage in the first Annual “Battle of the Boots”, a weight loss competition being organized by WeightLoss MD.

Twelve members of ire stations in Alpharetta, Duluth and Norcross will enroll in Weight Loss MD’s 14 week medically supervised weight control program that emphasizes an “Eat Well and Live Better” philosophy in order to combat our stressful lifestyles.

Each member of the three teams will have a customized weight loss program that includes personal medical counseling from board certified physician, Dr. David Wyatt and dietary counseling from a licensed, registered dietitian. Each team will visit one of the WeightLoss MD’s 3 clinics in Alpharetta, Dunwoody and Norcross on a weekly basis to weight in.

“Battle of the Boots” will kick off with a weight-in event on Thursday October 1st at the Alpharettal location of Weight Loss MD. During the brief ceremony, selected members of the three firehouses will step on the scales for the first time in this competition. While these brave firefighters face off in this friendly competition, the local community is invited to meet the contestants and learn about the healthy methods the firefighters will deploy in this biggest-loser-type contest.

Combining healthy diet, moderate exercise and motivational tools, the program is designed to help patients lose 10% of their body weight in the first 10 weeks. The winning team will be determined by how close they come to reaching or exceeding their goal.

According to WeightLoss MD Manager, Dave Doiron, the first annual “Battle of the Boots” is intended to educate and assist members of the fire fighting community on how to “Eat Well- Live Better” as well as educate the local community about the problems associated with being overweight so that they too might be encouraged to embrace healthy living.

“We hope that Battle of the Boots will inspire and motivate our community to recognize the problems associated with being overweight, one of America’s most daunting health crises, which impacts all of us.” said Dave. “By putting their lives on the line for us everyday, these brave men and women already are our heroes. Now they will take on a new challenge, becoming healthy heroes. Although our primary goal during this contest is to help each firefighter reach their target weight quickly and easily, the focus of care is to allow each to maintain their weight loss permanently so that they will not put the weight back on after the weight loss competition is over. We hope this Challenge will inspire our community to also become healthier during the holiday season.”

A final weigh-in ceremony and trophy presentation will be held in 14 weeks’ time, on Jan 7th during which weigh-in results will be tabulated and the team closest to meeting their target will be declared the winner. In the meantime, weekly results will be announced.
