LOCAL ENTERTAINMENT COMMUNITY IN SHOCK OVER LOCAL GRUESOME MURDERS

The Community Theatre and Karoke communites that thrive througout Orange County, including folks in Los Alamitos, Cypress, Huntington Beach, and Costa Mesa remain in shock this weekend as facts unfold over the multiple murders which occurred last week in the area. As Long Beach and Los Alamitos police and FBI investigators have searched and found the remains of war veteran Samuel Herr of Costa Mesa at El Dorado Park and Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base, residents still can't fathom why amiable local actor Daniel Wozniak would be driven to commit the unthinkable. Even more bizarre is his confession to establish an alibi with a second killing of an innocent Irvine woman in Costa Mesa, while pinning her death on the deceased former soldier.

Wozniak had spent the last couple of years garnering impressive credentials on stage; his latest as "Guido" in the production of "NINE" at the Hunger Artists Theater Company in Fullerton. He had also been a fixture at weekly Karaoke shows at Mr. B's and the Starting Gate in Los Alamitos. The local Los Alamitos High School graduate was also planning a wedding that was to occur this weekend.

Patrons at Mr. B's remember Wozniak as a friendly and talented singer who could turn "This Is The Moment" or "Hakuna Matata" into full blown performances. His entourage on a given night included local Community Theatre young actors who readily admired the handsome and tall performer. His fiance even appeared with him in several local musicals.

Yet there are friends within his fold who witnessed open hostility and frustration regarding his financial situation over the last several months. Singers in a given evening had been seen calming Wozniak down at the local taverns when he had become noticably agitated by Rachel Buffet (his fiancee) over the spending of money on a night out; funds that could be better saved towards their impending marriage.

However, it is one thing to decry financial stress, it is quite another to plan a double-murder. All the while, Wozniak would return to the stage and deliver top-notch characterizations. A local patron at the Starting Gate compared the scenario to something he saw in a movie with the same plotline. 1947's "A Double Life" earned Ronald Colman an Oscar for his portrayel as a murderous actor who crosses the line of a role and real life. The serene area where this occured calls to mind the writings of Tennessee Williams, Arthur Miller and other who discuss that the elusive American Dream can turn dangerous when unattained.

Only what happened in this community was not the plot of a movie or in a novel. This happened in the sleepy and affluent bedroom community, with friends, family and local residents left to pick up the pieces of this horrific event.

Dan Wozniak is set to be arraigned on Tuesday, June 1st. Funeral arrangements are pending for Samuel Herr and Juri Kibuishi, (the Irvine friend of Herr, who was found dead in his apartment; allegedly lured by Wozniak to her unfortunate fate).
