Portland, Ore., - December 5, 2011 – The Christmas for Kids Foundation will provide over 200 Portland area children with holiday gifts this season. The Foundation will provide clothing, essential items, and toys during the holidays to children of families who are otherwise unable to provide them.
The Christmas for Kids event will take place at the Hollywood West Fred Meyer from 9:00 am to 11:30 pm on Wednesday, December 7, 2011. Over 380 volunteers will be paired with Portland area children to assist in shopping for the items on each child’s wish list. The shoppers will also assist in filling the wishes of over 450 siblings, bringing the total to over 650 children benefiting from the program.
Scott Welch, Community Relations Manager for Columbia Sportswear and long-time supporter for this event commented. “This is an opportunity for our employees to not only volunteer during the holidays, but highlights the need for volunteers as shopping buddies for the children in this particular program.”
The Foundation would like to thank the co-sponsors who make this great event possible: Fred Meyer, Columbia Sportswear, UnitedHealthCare Services, Inc., ING Foundation, Royal Rosarians Foundation, George & Laura Fisher Family Fund, and Dr Frank & Karen Parker.
Other special sponsors are: Kaiser Permanente, Tigard Police Dept, Clackamas County Jail, Majestic Eagle Agency + Kemper, Dentists Benefit Corp, and First Tech Credit Union.
About The Christmas for Kids Foundation
For the past 22 years the Oregon based Christmas for Kids Foundation has sponsored Christmas for Kids, a non-religious charity outreach program. Funds are raised in the form of donated merchandise, employees’ time, and of course cash contributions. Over the past several years we have developed a partnership with several organizations to make this event truly memorable for kids and their families.
The goal of our program is to take underprivileged grade school children from the greater Portland metro area on a holiday shopping trip at the Hollywood Fred Meyer in NE Portland. Children are nominated from Title 1 schools by either their school principal or counselor and represent over 70 schools and 12 districts. In 2010, our member’s personally shopped with over 193 children and helped purchase needed items for another 370 siblings.
