Nashville, TN - November 5, 2011 – The last week of the year often finds solo entrepreneurs focusing on preparing and planning for the new year. But according to one Solo-E.com Certified Expert, business owners should use some of that time for making more time.
“Plans are great. They keep you focused on what matters in your business,” says Sue Painter, an online professional who focuses on cost-effective marketing strategies for small business owners. “But the biggest issue for entrepreneurs is time. There’s no better time than “It’s About Time Week” to start preparing to give yourself more to accomplish your plans.”
Founded in 2005, Painter's business, The Confident Marketer, helps small business owners to implement strategic marketing activities that create a constant stream of new customers for their businesses. Painter is one of 50 solo professionals who are certified by Solo-E.com.
“Solo-E.com certified business experts, including Sue, have been working virtually for years to help other solo business owners succeed,” says Terri Zwierzynski, CEO and founder of Solo-E.com. “They understand how to harness the time monsters and be productive.”
Together, Zwierzynski and Painter offer the following tips to create find more time as a solo professional:
1. Set boundaries. “Interruptions are the business owner’s enemy,” says Painter. “Only take calls, check emails, social media, etc. at specific times so you won’t be distracted. And let your clients and staff know about it so you set up expectations up front.”
2. Use your optimum productivity time. “We all have a ‘prime time’ for productivity – that is the time period when we get the most done. For some, it’s in the morning. Others can be night owls,” says Painter. “The key is to use that time to get your most important work done.”
3. Schedule time for yourself. “Everyone has to take time to ‘stop and smell the roses’”, says Zwierzynski. “Scheduling time for small breaks actually is proven to increase productivity in the long run.”
4. Plan your time. “Take a look at your goals for 2012 and take time to plan the time weekly to accomplish your goals by breaking them down into small 30 minute to an hour time periods,” explains Zwierzynski.
5. Set up your time off now at regularly spaced intervals for 2012. Painter says, "I require my clients to reserve one week each quarter for down time. Even if it's taken at home, that time gives a busy business owner "catch up" time for long-term planning and creative thinking. "It's one good way to be the leader you need to be for your own business to succeed."
