Local Business Creates LOVE For Philly
Philadelphia, Pa. - September 22, 2010 - With the cost of professional sports teams' apparel going through the roof - consider the fact that many sports fans are faced with a $300 price tag for one Jersey - Philly Apparel Company offers an unique, inexpensive and more practical alternative to showing love for Philadelphia. For under $30 you can purchase a soft, yet durable Philly hoodie that can be worn to all sporting events. And unlike professional athletes that are traded on a regular basis, leaving you with an expensive, outdated garment, Philly plans to be around for a very long time. By selling casual clothing adorned with little more than Philly in assorted designs, this start-up business is taking an entirely new approach to supporting the City of Brotherly Love.
The Web-based retail clothing business, http://www.phillyapparel.com, originally offered only T-shirts but has already expanded to sweatshirts, hoodies and jackets. As founder and co-owner Joe Gallagher puts it, "Like a person on a regular diet of Tony Luke's Cheesesteaks, we are constantly expanding."
In the summer of 2009 after spending the previous 22 years in the Collection Industry, Joe suddenly found himself unemployed. Rather than rejoin the work force, or add to the increasing ranks of the unemployed, he chose to do something that would someday create jobs instead. So along with his wife Florence, they decided to pursue an idea for a business he had been pondering for a few years. They realized that besides the usual local sports teams apparel, the people of Philadelphia wanted yet another way to show love for their home town. So armed only with their passion for fashion and a deep-rooted devotion to the City of Brotherly Love, they set out to satisfy the wishes of a proud populous. Not only have sales increased each and every month, but they invite and often receive, request from customers for specific styles or designs. The most frequent request? Children sizes of course. But when asked about how they plan to fulfill the desires of their ever-growing list of loyal customers, Joe answers with a smile,"One at a time. Eventually we plan to be able to offer something for everyone." It appears they are on the right track. An entire page on their website titled Visit Philly is devoted to listing the many reasons why people should come to their Great American City. For the history, culture and world famous eateries just to name a few. Also included on their website are links to a wide range of other websites and businesses located in Philadelphia to make your visit that much more enjoyable.
The folks at Philly Apparel Co. believe in what they do and have come a long way in a short amount of time. Talk to the owners about their motive for starting this business (surprise - it's not profits), and they will talk to you about their dedication to the promotion of the city they hold so dear. In this day and age of corporate greed, and the unnecessary inflation of prices for both goods and services, Philly Apparel Co. customers can rest easy knowing that they are now able to show their love for their hometown in a fashionable, cost-effective way.
For a company born in the midst of a recession during such difficult economic times, they seem to have developed the proper formula for starting a small business. So for now Philly Apparel Company is content with their rate of expansion and low operating cost. But they don't plan to remain small for long - aside from their signature Philly gear, they now also produce bulk orders of promotional merchandize for area businesses and organizations. Add to that, the word around town is that in the very near future a large shopping and entertainment complex is to be built on the site of the former Philadelphia Spectrum in South Philadelphia, called Philly Live. "Can you think of a better place to open a clothing store called Philly Apparel Co.?" Joe asks. Absolutely not!
