TAMPA (November 12, 2009) – The Tampa chapter of Current will spend Saturday, November 14th, volunteering their time to help wash the clothes of those less fortunate. The event will begin at 10:00 at the Sulphur Springs Coin Laundry at 908 E Waters Avenue, Tampa, FL 33604.
The “Laundry Love Project” provides an opportunity for volunteers from throughout the community to assist those in need by helping them afford a simple, yet often overlooked common need: doing their laundry. “Current volunteers provide those less fortunate with the ability to wash and dry their clothes,” said Current President Jason Sowell. “We assist them through providing the detergent and paying for their laundry to be done, as well as spending time just talking with the families to ensure they know we care about them.”
Current is collecting gift card donations from super markets in the area. The gift cards will be given out to those in most need to alleviate some of the financial stress of the season and allow families to have a more fulfilling and memorable Thanksgiving holiday.
“We encourage anyone interested in helping with the event to come out and join us on Saturday morning,” said Sowell. “We also need the support of local businesses to help provide coins for the laundry as well and the detergent and goodies for the kids.”
Current is seeking donations of laundry detergent, quarters (rolls of $10), 1-gallon Ziploc bags, garbage bags, coloring books, crayons, fabric softener, and laundry baskets. Donations can be brought to the event on the morning of the 14th or contact Jason Sowell.
Current has received donation support for this weekend’s project from Sweetbay Supermarkets and Avenida Cleaning Service (www.AvenidaCleaning.com).
