LOCAZU.COM SAVES STUDENTS NEARLY $4,000,000

The free site allows students from across Canada to search for textbooks, tutorials, events of interest and to post their own. To date the site has served over $100,000 users and saved them nearly $4,000,000 collectively.

LocazU enables users to find used textbooks for cheap and make money by selling textbooks to users on campus or locally. The website provides options to search within school and course and there is a wide variety of subjects covered.

The fact that the site saves users money is especially relevant at a time when the price of attending university is on the up. Along with the high price of tuition fees, Canadian parents and students are also effected by an issue not as widely publicized; the cost of textbooks. Textbooks cost Canadian students over $600 million per year and since 1994, textbook prices have increased an average of 62%. This is an average spend per student of $1000 on new books and $750 on used. Mark-up on used books at a university bookstore averages at around 25% and by contrast, students save an average of 40% per textbook buying directly from students on LocazU.

The LocazU site also provides the user with the option to find and post tutorial notes, study guides or flash cards. Notes sell from around $0.50 for class notes, $5 - $25 for an entire set of course notes and $20-$25 for exam notes. They can all be sold repeatedly for maximum profits. A further feature of the tutorials section of the site is a form to post questions and answers, users can link them to a textbook or tutorial and indicate how much they are willing to pay and when the information is required by. Events can also be posted in much the same way, and students who want to network socially or professionally can search and request notifications for events at or near their university.

LocazU saves students time, money and connects them to each other. It goes without saying that book stores and publishers may not be their number one fans, but at a time when the price of education is high, savings like these make all the difference.
