London, UK, October 08, 2009 -- London is suddenly awash with themed events for Christmas from burlesque to tango but which ones are best for Christmas parties where not everyone is necessarily going to be into the theme and where other factors like how good the food is and whether there is a disco and dancing afterwards are going to be just as important. Read below and hear the inside track courtesy of Christmas Confidential.
Our advice is in general stick to venues which actually do what they are promising entertainment wise over Christmas week in week out and avoid over hyped and often over priced on off spectaculars – they are likely to disappoint. If you are going to a hotel based event stick to those hotels with a good reputation for food.
Of the 70s /80s dicso themed parties the New Connaught Rooms Abba Reunion party catches the eye. Reasonably priced for a hotel event at £65 per head the entertainment is top notch and the Connaught Rooms is known for producing quality food. No rubber turkeys here and a decent late licence too. Roll on Fernando
Of the burlesque cabaret and comedy themed shared Christmas party nights Peacock Bar in Clapham Junction’s “Put Your Boss on The Stage” looks the best A three course traditional Christmas turkey dinner or lunch for £25 (food only) with six burlesque cabaret shows, a host and a photographer all thrown in. A cheesey disco afterwards till the small hours of the morning completes an excellent package. Available for exclusive or shared Christmas parties lunch or dinner from December 1st onwards. As a multiple award winning venue the entertainment should be top notch too. See their site www.the-peacock-bar.co.uk
Fancy something Cuban with maybe a bit of Salsa after? Our recommendation is the Cuban Camden. A three course meal for £35 albeit somewhat un Christmas like apart from the Christmas pudding remains true to the venues Cuban roots. With a 1am, licence weekdays and a 2am licence Friday and Saturdays there is plenty of time to knock back a few cocktails after. A tip though avoid the Cuban citypoint spin off which is no where near as good
Does the boss see himself as a James Bond figure – well does anyone have a boss that doesn’t? Go for the Bloomsbury Hotel James Bond themed night. Food look exceptionally good and at £75 +VAT with courtesy glass of champagne is good value by West End Hotel standards anyway. All rounded off by dancing till 1am after.
Medieval banquets seem to be having a bit off a comeback these days something to do with Lord of The Rings no doubt. Avoid all the hotels trying this one and head straight to The Medieval banquet at Ivory House in Smithfield.
