The Spy Family book series are written with similar story lines to the likes of Tom Clancy or Robert Ludlum, but with the main characters being a family, including 13 year old twins, and there not being any swearing, sex or graphic violence (PG instead of PG-13 or R). With the ending of the Harry Potter Series of books, many went from wands to vampires. What about the next generation of kids that wants some action, adventure or thrills? There are some alternatives out there. The Percy Jackson Series of books also has a huge following. The mythical gods, monsters and magical powers helped bridge many children’s need for another imaginary world within their own. But, the choices dwindle if one wants to see modern stories in real places, with real characters. In today’s age of 24 hour news, like CNN and FOX News, children are constantly exposed to acts of terrorism, crimes, and world wide financial peril. They would like to see themselves correcting these wrongs, helping stop the crimes as they happen. Spy Family Books shows how teenagers, together with their Mom and Dad, can make a difference.

“Our school recommends that our kids read 30 – 60 minutes a day. After a month or two of this, they started running out of books at their reading level that would keep their attention. They told me they wanted action, they wanted to read books that had chase scenes, where the main characters were in peril. I started looking into books for them, but most of the Young Adult (YA) books started focusing on rebellious themes of inappropriate dating, sex, swearing and graphic violence. So, I decided to write a book series that my kids and their friends could read and enjoy without having to be exposed to the seedy side of life,” said James Rahfaldt, SPY FAMILY author.

When thirteen year old twins, James and Elizabeth Ward, go on a summer vacation to Italy with their parents, it quickly turns into a job to help the CIA, …a job to save their own lives.

While the CIA told the Wards they would simply have dinner with a person of interest in Venice; a CIA double agent told the Italian mobster, Silvano Rosito, that the Wards’ mission was to kill him.

He heads an international purse counterfeiting ring, which ultimately funds terrorist groups. Silvano’s goons kidnap the Wards. James started the vacation as a boy, but transitions into a man as he escapes and saves his family.

From jail, Silvano sends one assassin team after another across Italy to kill the Wards.

The Wards, unable to escape the reach of the Italian Mob, decide to fully join the CIA.

CIA officer Frank Brenan is assigned to protect the Wards. He suspects that the counterfeit ring has a rogue CIA officer in its ranks.
