Over the years more than a half-million dollars in prizes and scholarships have been handed out to deserving youngsters. Currently the makeup of HIGH FIVE primarily consists of high schools competing from Oregon and Washington. Each team consists of five to seven students. All teams also have a minimum of one HIGH FIVE coach, either a teacher, counselor or parent. All schools participate at zero cost. Everything provided is derived from private industry. The format of the show is primarily academic. Each week 50 Q&A’s are featured, five questions in each of 10 categories. HIGH FIVE is both educational and entertaining. Although the target audience is youngsters 14-to-18 years of age, the show has mass appeal to audiences of all ages. HIGH FIVE is family-rich television. The motto of HIGH FIVE continues to be “Kids Working In Teams, Not Gangs.” Parents are encouraged to watch HIGH FIVE with their children, as a form of positive reinforcement and as an alternative to all the violence seen on television today.
High Five Challenge Game Rules
High school teams compete from Seattle to Southern Oregon and all points in between. All schools appear once during the regular season, with the top eight scoring teams and two random picks qualifying for post season play. Both teams have five to seven players. During play, four regular players and one wild card from each team compete in ten categories. Players may be substituted after the fifth category. The wildcard "MUST" be changed at this time. The five additional categories are then played. Each wildcard player has three steals for each half of the game. Unused steals cannot be carried over to the second half. Incorrect steals lose double point values. The final category has point values that are doubled.
Overall Educational Objective and Rationale
Above all, the HIGH FIVE CHALLENGE is intended to spark an interest in the pursuit of learning, including but not limited to World History, U.S. History, Science, Arts and Entertainment, Current Events, Geography and Literature.
