The technical name for this process is selective photothermolysis. The procedure works because melanin tends to absorb light to a much greater extent than lighter areas – it acts as a choromophore. This makes it possible to direct the laser selectively at the hair follicles, which will absorb much more heat than surrounding areas and will therefore be damaged while the surrounding areas remain perfectly safe. Hence laser hair removal is both effective and safe.

This laser hair removal system has a number of innovations that are considerable improvements over traditional laser hair removal systems. This significantly reduces the considerable discomfort that is traditionally associated with laser hair removal procedures.

Customers with all skin types (Fitzpatrick Skin Types I-VI) can come to our Center for laser hair removal with the LightSheer system, as well as people with tanned skin. The fluence and pulse width of the laser are modulated in accordance with your skin type – that is all that needs to be done in order to adapt the laser hair removal procedure to individual customers. Specifically, darker or tanned skin requires shorter fluences and longer pulse widths of the laser.
