Los Angeles, California --- (October 12, 2011) --- The Los Angeles Mission has named a local pastor and clinician to direct the operations of its programs. Dr. Charles Morgan comes to the Mission with years of counseling and pastoral experience, and on-going teaching and volunteer leadership connections.

“This new executive leadership position will oversee the direction of all ministry and academic programs of the Los Angeles Mission and the Anne Douglas Center for Women at the Mission,” said Herbert Smith, President of the Mission. “Charles comes to us with an earned Doctorate of Theology from Antioch Christian University, a Master’s of Science/Marriage and Family Therapy from Fuller Theological Seminary and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Southern California.”

“I am delighted to become a part of the Los Angeles Mission Family after more than twenty years of association,” said Dr. Morgan. “The Los Angeles Mission is an oasis of comfort and respite to the beleaguered and weary soul. As we look towards the future, it is my fervent desire that it will become the fulcrum of powerful and effective change, not only for individuals, but families and the community at large.”

Dr. Morgan is pastor of Resurrection Life Fellowship (RLF) in Westchester. He has extensive experience in the area of mental health. He has been a counselor and social worker leading treatment teams to provide scaffolding, holistic and mental health services to clients. He has extensive experience in benefits and community resources. He has facilitated individual, couple, child, group and family therapy including those with sexual addictions and registered sex offenders as a certified Abel Assessment Instructor.

In his career Dr. Morgan has worked as a house parent to children with backgrounds of abuse, addiction and abandonment. He has also worked with youth age 18-21 in residential programs including those assigned by the Department of Children and Family Services, and DPSS.

In addition Dr. Morgan has been recognized for distinguished community service by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Dr. Morgan has a love for teaching and encouraging others. He has traveled extensively to various countries: England, Uganda, Kenya, Malawi, South Africa, Mexico, Canada, as well as various cities in the US, as a bible expositor, theologian, life skills instructor, and lecturer. Dr. Morgan taught at Penske College, a division of the multi-billion dollar auto giant, where he lectured on Leadership Skills and Personal Development. He served for 5 years as the President of Harvest Fields International, an association of independent ministers. He is also an accomplished musician.

For 75 years, the Los Angeles Mission has served the people of Skid Row, providing emergency services such as shelter, food, clothing, as well as professional medical and dental services. In addition, the Los Angeles Mission also offers long-term residential rehabilitation programs including education, job training/placement, transitional housing and counseling.
