Mom and Pop-Up Shop Features 30 LLF Vendors on King Street

November 11, 2011 – Charleston, SC – Jamee Haley, Director of Charleston non-profit organization Lowcountry Local First (LLF), announced today that the 5th Annual “Buy Local Month” is set for November 15th - December 15th. LLF is setting up a “Mom and Pop-Up Shop” featuring 30 LLF member businesses at Buy Local Home Base in Charleston’s premier shopping district at 359 King Street. Multiple events are scheduled throughout the month including a “Welcome Home Happy Hour” at 10 Storehouse Row, a Local Artisans’ Market at the shopping center in South Windermere, free Thursday morning Buy Local Breakfasts, a Buy Local, Be Local Bash.
This is the second year that LLF dedicated an entire month to ‘Buy Local.’ LLF secured an un-used retail space to create the ‘Mom and Pop-Up Shop’ where 30 LLF vendors are set up showcase their local business. This hub also gives some businesses the opportunity to have a downtown location in the King Street shopping district. Other events this month include a Buy Local Happy Hour on November 15th, 105.5 The Bridge live broadcast on December 3rd and 10th, and the free Buy Local, Be Local Bash on December 1st with music and food from HoM Burger Boutique and Patat Spot as well as wine from Bottles and specialty cocktails from Social Wine Bar.
“The holiday season is a vital time for success for most local retailers. Lowcountry Local First is committed to keep local businesses thriving by educating people of this importance through our ‘Buy Local’ and ‘Eat Local’ initiatives,” said Haley. “The ‘Mom and Pop-Up Shop’ is a great way to centralize all LLF businesses in an amazing venue to increase sales and local awareness this holiday, shopping season.”
This is also the second year that LLF produced the Buy Local card. Card carrying locals may receive discounts at over 100 Charleston business locations. LLF has a goal to sell all 5,000 2011/2012 ‘Buy Local’ cards this year. The cards may be purchased for $20, or $15 if you turn in your old card, at the ‘Mom and Pop-Up Shop,’ participating LLF member businesses, and now Montessori Community School and Blessed Sacrament School of Charleston.
LLF ‘Buy Local Month’ is designed to encourage the Charleston public to keep their money home for the holidays by investing in the local economy.
