LSU Tiger Band to be inducted into Louisiana Music Hall of Fame

(Free-Press-Release.com) September 11, 2009 -- LSU Tiger Stadium will rock and roar on September 12th when the LSU Tiger Marching Band will be inducted into Louisiana Music Hall of Fame (LMHOF). The storied “Golden Band From Tigerland” will be honored for its unique historical, cultural and educational contributions and for its continual record of achievements during a special halftime show featuring home-grown hit songs from the 50’s, 60’s and ‘70s.

“This will represent the first and only college marching band to be inducted into a music hall of fame that we know of,” says LMHOF Executive Director Mike Shepherd. “And what better place to present the honor than at halftime in Tiger Stadium with 93,000 friends?”

The show music will feature “Carnival Time” by Al Johnson, “Barefootin’” by Robert Parker and “Mr. Big Stuff” by Jean Knight, all past inductees of the LMHOF. The stadium video screen will show images of the artists and from Tiger Band history. On hand to make the induction presentation with Shepherd will be Dr. Charlie Roberts, LSU Alumni Association president and Tiger Band alumnus, and Del Moon, a Tiger Band alumnus who founded the first LMHOF project in 1980 and who now serves on the current Executive Advisory Board.

Associate Director of Bands Dr. Linda Moorhouse says the significance of the induction is something she and Director of Bands Frank Wickes fully appreciate. "Being inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame is truly one of the great honors ever to have been bestowed upon the LSU Tiger Marching Band,” Moorhouse says. “To be considered so highly among the extraordinary icons of Louisiana popular music is one of the most significant milestones in the history of our program, the College of Music and Dramatic Arts, and LSU."

The Tiger Band induction will bring to 45 the number of music legends that have been formally recognized to date. The Louisiana Music Hall of Fame is under the auspices of the certified nonprofit La Musique de Louisianne, Inc. LMHOF plans to induct many additional music hit makers and pioneers associated with the state’s rich and diverse music legacy, and to provide special recognition to many more regional favorites and to luminaries in songwriting and performance. The group also envisions continuing and expanding its educational and promotional activities while seeking support to obtain brick and mortar facilities to advance its mission.
