Luke & Associates Supports Community Services Council of Brevard’s Meals on Wheels

(January 4, 2012) — Feeding senior citizens is a prevalent need in Brevard County, Florida. The Community Services Council of Brevard County’s Meals on Wheels assists with this need; however, due to an overwhelming amount of requests, 2011 marked the first year in the history of the program that a waiting list had been put in place.

"We try not to have a waiting list, but we had cutbacks this year thus creating a waiting list. To me, a waiting list for Meals on Wheels is pretty simplistic; if we don't have the money, people don't eat,” Community Services Council’s President and CEO, Cindy Flachmeier, said.

Luke & Associates, Inc. (Luke) is committed to creating meaningful change in the communities they serve through philanthropic efforts and associate volunteerism. Through Luke’s monetary and volunteer contributions, Meals on Wheels was able to continue feeding seniors during the holiday season. After the first of the year, employees from Luke will volunteer to help deliver meals on a “Meals on Wheels Saturday.” The Community Services Council appreciates when local corporations adopt a Saturday and have their employees deliver meals to individuals who otherwise wouldn’t have a weekend meal.

“The Community Services Council provides services that are very important to the whole community. It’s amazing to see all that they do for our senior citizens and aging population. They help preserve the quality of life for our seniors – the way it should be. Luke wants to help in any way we can,” Luke’s President and CEO, Jim Barfield, said.
