At the Shefaro Ranch, 891 Hume Road, San Antonio, TX, Sherry Faye Rodarmor hosted a fun and friendly lure coursing practice in her west field. The dogs and owners had a blast. Weather was typically beautiful South Texas, San Antonio weather. Dee came down from Kerrville with her Afghan, while Joey and Peggy from La Porte, Texas, brought their Afghans and their Shefaro Saluki, Edy. The pups enjoyed running after the lure and also exploring the two wooded acres "Shefaro Park." There were so many things for the pups to see and do. Distractions abounded, but those dogs that were keen on the lure, exceeded all expectations. We are all looking forward to running our kids at the next lure coursing events when the season starts back up in September. We run about 250-300 yards and the dogs will do two or three turns around the field (depending upon the dog) after which they are walked out, cooled down and watered. They also can take a dip in the 300+ gallon stock tank. Joey and Peggy's Afghans particularly like to dunk in the baby pools of cool water in the shade of some big trees. After practice was over, we all went for a delicious lunch at the local TexMex Restaurant. A good time was had by all and we look forward to our next fun lure coursing practice day. We have subsequently had multiple lure coursing practices at Shefaro Ranch always ending up having had a great morning and lots of fun for the dogs and people!
