Briar Cottages owners Fraser and Kim Proven began the new build project at the end of July having decided to invest their savings in a luxury cottage for four. Plans were approved to reflect the style of their 300 year old B Listed thatched cottage where they live as well as the double garage and their existing stone holiday cottage Little Briar. "We wanted the exterior to give the impression of a converted steading yet have a spacious, light and modern interior. We achieved this by utilising local stone on the front elevation with full glass patio doors leading from the lounge and both bedrooms. The furnishings combine white, cream, tan, chocolate and black hues to reflect the seam of rock that was uncovered behind the house and in keeping with the local stone used in the hearth and garden walls. The seam of rock at the back has water cascading down it from Achraw hill behind which makes an attractive bonus feature" said Kim.

Briar Steading is 110sq m. with two bedrooms separated by an open plan living area with a wood burning stove and a dining Kitchen. The Linear Cream kitchen is well equipped housing a washer dryer, dishwasher and 70/30 fridge freezer. The master bedroom has a King sized bed and an en-suite with a generous steel bath and Mira Sport shower. The Twin bedroom leads to a roomy walk in wet room shower area with Jack and Jill doors leading back into the lounge. Both en-suites are finished in floor to wall gloss Travertine tiles. The cottage has TV's in every room showing Sky and Freesat and is WiFi enabled. There are parking spaces for 2 cars and a boat trailer. Guests can fish free from the loch garden and jetty during the fishing season, use the slipway to launch and moor a small boat and request to use the Provens indoor hot tub on the grounds.

The Provens have built up a successful self catering holiday business with Little Briar attracting 5 star Trip Advisor reviews all year round. Briar Steading is a pet free environment though pets are welcome at Little Briar. 7 nights in Briar Steading over Christmas will cost £800 and includes a decorated tree and complimentary Scottish Food hamper. The £800 New Year package includes free tickets to the Lochearnhead village hall Hogmanay party with a live band. Guests will also be invited to view inside the Provens 17th century home, Briar Cottage, to witness the original cruck timber framed ceiling under the thatched roof and to hear stories of its tenants through the years.
