Lynn Lions' Eye Mobile to Offer Free Screenings, 8am to 4pm April 16th and 23rd
Coincides with Opening Days at Lynn Little League at Kiley Playground and Volunteer Field
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) April 8, 2011 --
The Lynn Lions, part of the Lions Clubs International, the largest service club organization, will be holding free eye screenings, tied to opening day of the Lynn Shore Little League season at Kiley Playground on April 16th and the East Lynn Little League season at Volunteer Field on April 23rd.
The Lion's District 33N Eye Mobile has served the City of Lynn by conducting free, noninvasive community-based screening for hypertension, vision loss, eye disease, and hearing loss.
When: Sat, April 16, 8am – 4pm
Where: Kiley Playground, Sanderson Ave. at end (off Chatham St.) Lynn, MA
When: Sat, April 23, 8am – 4pm
Where: Volunteer Field, Memorial Park Ave, Lynn, MA
Staffed by local ophthalmologists and affiliated with the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund, Inc. the New England Eye Center, the Massachusetts Eye And Ear Infirmary and the Schepens Eye Research Institute, the Eye Mobile offers seven different free screenings, including:
• An automatic blood pressure monitor with O2 and pulse readings.
• A visual acuity tester, similar to that used by the RMV, presenting the "Illiterate E" test, which is suitable even for young children. For accurate measurements, persons should be wearing their distance eye-glasses or contact lenses (if they have any).
• A test of depth perception to detect children with lazy eye.
• A color vision test to detect red/green color blindness in male children.
• A "puff" Tonometer to measure eye pressure. An elevated pressure is a risk factor for glaucoma.
• A camera to detect cataracts and retinal pathology, such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma. This test does not require eye drops.
• A hearing booth to measure hearing sensitivity.
"Providing free screenings to our community is an important part of the Lynn Lions Clubs' mission to aid the blind and visually impaired in our community," said Sean Crowley, Lynn Lions Club President. "The free screenings help seniors and children alike by providing eye exams that can catch issues before they develop into significant problems and can encourage members of the community to get treatment."
