Maha Shivaratri 2010 celebrations at Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam - February 12, 2010

On the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivaratri 2010, the powerful Shiva Kundalini meditation and grand celebrations were conducted at Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam’s Bengaluru ashram under the auspices of enlightened master Paramahamsa Nithyananda. The night-long celebrations were attended by over 20,000 people from around the world.

The word ‘Shiva’ means ‘causeless auspiciousness’. ‘Ratri’ not only means darkness, it also means intensity. Maha Shivaratri is the night when the intense divine energy is best available to human beings - the whole of nature supports us to experience our higher energy, our higher consciousness.

The Maha Shivaratri celebrations 2010 started with a beautiful procession to the Sri Anandeshwara temple where arati (ceremonial display of lamps) was performed to the ancient sacred healing banyan tree and the presiding deities Sri Anandeshwara and Anandeshwari. This was followed by the traditional float festival in the healing reservoir Vaidya Sarovar, which houses the 21-foot Ananda Lingam made of navapashana (strong natural medicine) and 1008 sacred ayurvedic herbs. On the occasion of Maha Shivaratri, thousands of people took a dip in the holy waters of Vaidya Sarovar.

A free multi-specialty medical camp was conducted on the ashram premises, including diagnosis, consultation and medication. Anna daan (free food) service was provided through the night to the thousands who had gathered to celebrate Maha Shivaratri 2010 in the energy field of Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam.

The evening’s cultural program was marked by traditional music and dance performances. This was followed by a powerful discourse on the significance of Maha Shivaratri, and initiation into the powerful Shiva Kundalini meditation by Paramahamsa Nithyananda.

The night-long celebrations continued with abhishekam (sacred bath to the swayambhu or naturally formed lingam) and Maha Rudra homa,a fire ceremony performed to invoke the higher energies for raising the individual consciousness and bringing about global harmony.
