Maine Internet Marketing - The Power of a Keyword rich domain name

(Free-Press-Release.com) December 1, 2009 -- When building a presence on the web for your small business, your success boils down to your internet marketing expertise. Normally you have a website for your business and your domain name may be something like "www.BobsPlumbing.com".

While that domain name identifies your business name perefectly, it does not contain any keywords that people in your local town or city type into google when searching for plumbers in your town.

If your site has been around for a while and has built up some authority in the search engines and you've focused on local SEO then your site may be on the first page of the search results.

However, if your website performance is not so great and doesn't rank well for the keywords you want to get found for, ONE of the quickest ways to get a eyeballs to your main website is to build something I call "a doorway page". These are very similar to a "squeeze page".

A doorway page is website with a keyword rich domain name. Instead of www.BobsPlumbing.com, your doorway page would be www.PlumbersinPortlandMaine.com.

Of course you want to pick your keyword rich domain name after you've done some basic keyword research to find out what people in your local area are actually searching for. Assess your competition and see how many competing sites there are.

An easy way to do this is to search for your keyword phrase in quotes like this: "Plumbers in Portland Maine". If there are under 15,000 competing sites then I'd say you can rank on the first page of google within a week with your doorway page. If there is more competition, this still can be done.

Now the whole point of a doorway page is to either:

A: Direct traffic back to your main site or..
B: Capture the names and email address of visitors to your doorway page. These are leads that you can follow up with later.

Here is a real life example of one of my doorway pages:

Do a google search for "Homes in Gorham Maine"

Take a look at the website right there on the first page with the domain "www.HomesinGorhamMaine.com"

I built this site after doing some keyword research to find out what people were typing into google when searching for a home in the Gorham Maine area. I then built this site around 5 main keywords.

I threw the site online and in a little under a week it was #3 in google on the first page for its keywords. The site had NO CONTENT on it and had NO BACKLINKS when it got ranked. It was an empty site with a keyword rich domain name, keyword rich page title, page description and meta tags.

I am not a real estate agent so I am currently selling this site for $749. I have no use for real estate leads. A smart real estate agent could buy this from me and use it as a doorway page back to his/her main site or they could even use it as their main website.

Well thats it for today. Hopefully this has you thinking about different ways you can use doorway pages to drive traffic to your main website or capture leads to follow up with.
