Maine Subaru Dealer Earns Green Dealer Certification

Portland, Maine, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) November 4, 2011 -- Patriot Subaru in Saco, Maine has earned Green Dealer Certification as assessed by the Green Dealer Support program. To earn this status, Patriot Subaru had to demonstrate how the store had designed and implemented sustainable energy saving techniques, effective recycling and waste management programs, and could improve the overall productivity and bottom line of the business. The GDS program works with auto dealers across the country to help them develop internal programs that affect the environment positively, while helping to make the business run more efficiently.

Patriot Subaru Owner and President, Adam Arens says “We had a commitment to being responsible to the environment from the day we opened back in 2003. There were strategies built into our original thinking. But it was the unrest in the economy several years back where we took a real hard look at every aspect of the business, and saw we could be better. We looked at everything we did, and revised much of our thinking.”

One of the biggest moves was to invest is LED lighting for all outdoor lighting. “It was an investment, but the numbers showed that the savings in energy costs would break even in about 5 years. In addition we initiated over 20 steps to help reduce energy, some 40 steps to be more environmentally friendly, and another 20 items that make our facility a healthier place to work. Everything is listed on our website. If others see what Patriot is doing, and incorporate it into their businesses. If they learn from it, and it helps the earth, then it's the right thing to do."

Patriot earned the Energy Star Small Business Award in 2010, the first business in Maine to receive such an award. “We have over 90 Energy Star qualified appliances in the building, and we turn everyone off at night. We don’t use balloons to decorate, we use hanging plants. No stone goes unturned. Unless it is in our organic vegetable garden that is tended to by employees and customers.” says Arens.
