Malibu Divers congratulates Carrie Ewbank , PADI IDC Staff Instructor and Store Manager, on receiving the 2013 œMike Bright award for highest level of overall achievement. (Mike 'Bones' Bright was the original owner of Malibu Divers). Giancarlo Hamner , PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer received the 2013 Dolphin Award. œAs a rookie instructor, his passion and care for his students and diving is amazing, remarked Barbara Gentile-Crary, co-owner and director of education. This award recognizes there's no substitute for fins-in-the-water experience. Giancarlo who earned his PADI Instructor certification in June 2012, immediately went to work at Camp Emerald Bay, Catalina Island, the World's largest Boy Scout Scuba certification program run by Malibu Divers. At camp, he personally trained over 170 scouts in EFR (Emergency First Response, CPR & First Aid), Discover Scuba Diving, Open Water (beginner), and Rescue Divers.
Taylor Goff , PADI Assistant Instructor and Pepperdine Student Intern is the winner of the 2013 Hero Award. While full-time college student, he earned his PADI Divemaster, and launched the Pepperdine Scuba Club in early 2012. In one year's time, he was responsible for over 45 Pepperdine students participating in introductions to scuba diving, scuba tune-ups and open water training. He also established the Club constitution, and managed the finances of the club. He created and implemented strategic marketing plans and tracked event participation and conversion attracting Pepperdine college students to try scuba diving and become PADI Open Water Diver certified. His superb ability to communicate and organize on-campus events to promote scuba diving experiences, raised awareness and word-of-mouth about PADI and the sport of diving. He also utilized marketing materials and resources provided by Malibu Divers and PADI as well as created GoPro club trip video and recommended new materials to be used. He is the 2013 Hero for his service to Malibu Divers, PADI, and the sport of diving and marine conservation.
