Los Angeles, CA – (August 10, 2011) – Encouraging young adults to pursue a career in scuba diving and expanding the opportunity for others looking to change professions, is vital to the future of the diving industry, related businesses and the marine environment. MALIBU DIVERS started training boy scouts to learn to scuba dive in the 1990’s at Camp Emerald Bay in Catalina and has continued to expand its dive programs to now include dive professional training to the Instructor level.

An “IDC” is known within the dive industry as Instructor Development Course was developed by PADI, the Professional Association of Diving Instructors, in response to requests by members to create an industry-wide program to bring more scuba instructors into dive training. The Instructor Development Course can only be taught by a Course Director (Instructor Trainer).

MALIBU DIVERS’ “IDC” is a version of this training program that will focus on the practical, theoretical, philosophical, educational, and business needs and skills that are foundational to functioning as an elite professional in the diving industry. The focus will not be to help the individual pass a course or the Instructor Examination; rather it will be for them to exit the program as a skilled and accomplished dive instructor ready to hit the ground running by focusing on real world skills in today’s economy. All educational materials, training, and application fees, ferry transportation to Emerald Bay and food and accommodations are included in this program.

Aquatic-related careers for dive instructors span a large arena of potential avenues from teaching diving to Oceanographer to Treasure Hunter to Underwater Film Maker to Police Rescue Teams to Actors and Stunt Coordinators and EVERYTHING in between. Adding scuba credentials to your resume may also enhance or secure new or existing career opportunities for you. If you're a lawyer or a computer analyst, you could specialize in dive-related jobs. As a teacher, you can bring a new perspective to your students. Join the FBI, and become one of their divers. If you’re an eligible veteran, the US Department of Veteran Affairs will reimburse you for your PADI Instructor Examination.

Camp Emerald Bay is located at the furthest West End of Catalina Island and offers a secluded and convenient dive sites in what is considered one of the top dive destinations in the world. Camp Emerald Bay is the premier destination for your ideal IDC experience. During the summer months, over 5000 scouts and campers attend a variety of programs including scuba diving.

MALIBU DIVERS first PADI IDC program was launched in 1990's in Malibu, California and continues on a bi-monthly rotation throughout 2011-2012. MALIBU DIVERS is launching PADI IDC, Instructor Development Course the week August 22-29, 2911 to be held on Catalina Island at Camp Emerald Bay.
