Paddle4Relief is adding a new dimension to the 2010 paddle event, a race! Yes, on Sunday 30th May, at Saunton Beach, not only will the social paddle be taking place, but for those with a more competitive disposition, there is a race. Every year has seen the 'enthusiastic' few ignore calls for a chilled and sedate paddle, and instead, race off towards the horizon in search of fame as numero uno in the field of paddling! Well now it's time to see who really has the stamina to paddle from Saunton to Croyde and back in the fastest time! The one that does, will be surfing and sunning themselves whilst on a weeks holiday in Hossegor, France, courtesy of Errant Surf.
P4R are extremely grateful to Chris Thomson of Errant Surf for his continued support over the years and is hoping that this fantastic top prize will draw a big entry to help raise monies for both Sri Lanka and Haiti.
There will also be prizes for 2nd and 3rd in the race provided by Billabong(France) and a host of other sponsors. Billabong have been immense in supporting P4R this year, donating wetsuits, clothing and a host of other prizes. Entry for the race is £15.00. Terms and conditions apply. Longboards up to ten feet only!

At the other end of the spectrum the less frantic activity of the Social Paddle celebrates it's 6th year and is open to all with whatever craft takes your fancy! This is a more leisurely paddle over the same distance that includes forming a circle of remembrance for the victims of the 2004 Asian Tsunami and 2010 Haiti earthquake at the Point. The social paddle does not go without prizes though! Brends Hotels have again donated a holiday break in one of their villas to the paddler raising the most sponsorship. Last year it was Steve 'Joeby' Slight who was successful having raised over £500.00. Can anyone beat that amount this year? The Thatch, Croyde, are making sure that the P4R Stewards can be seen from afar to keep the group of paddlers safe, with the brightly coloured rashies!! Entry donation of £10.00 is required with a minimum £25.00 sponsorship to guarantee the freebies on offer!
There are prizes on offer for the adult and child deemed to be paddling in the most prolific and entertaining of Fancy Dress outfits!! Throw in the enormous raffle and add a splash of Tombola and it's looking like a fun fundraising extravaganza!

The event see's plenty of action taking place on terra fer ma! North Devon's very own celebrity, Merlin Cadagon, will be making a special appearance!

Merlin, Britain's Got Talent 2009 semi finalist will be performing his under water fire juggling escape stunt at 2.30pm, come and see if he can escape from 10 meters of chain and juggle fire under water!!

And then there is another local celebrity! The man they call 'Stormin Norman'! He, of Saunton Hotdoggers fame, will be present with his infamous BBQ, whilst Pinky PA hosts an afternoon of live acoustic music from artists Jim Jones, Chris Millington, Julie Yount & Stuart Wills, Country Rose and The Wild Thorns, and others yet to be confirmed.

Sponsors for 2010 also include The Thatch, Surfed Out, Surfplugs, Rob Tibbles Photography, Croyde Adventure, The Corner Bistro, A1Surf, Casacocina, Breakers (Georgeham), SaltRock, Saunton Break, Loose-Fit, Nalu Beads and a host of other local businesses.

P4R continue to carry out projects in Sri Lanka, with this year seeing 'the birth of a surfing nation', the formation of the Surfing Federation of Sri Lanka. P4R's Founder, Tim Tanton, co-heads the project along with Australian Surfer and Artist, Peter Rob-o. Both Peter and Tim are busy bringing the surfers of Sri Lanka together to create the Federation that will hopefully and ultimately see the Sri Lankan Government recognise surfing as a sport in Sri Lanka. With so much natural surfing talent, and so many top class waves around the island, it would seem an injustice for this not to happen.
P4R are also heading the formation of a Surf Life Saving Team in Arugam Bay following last years untimely death of Ranjan, the original President of Arugam Bay Surf Club, whilst surfing. They are also continuing with their efforts in providing safe drinking water to the community and maintaining their focus on activity groups for the children and youths in the area.

Detailed information about the two paddles can be found on our website www.paddle4relief.co.uk including registration and sponsor form downloads for both the Social Paddle and the Paddle Race. Registration forms are also available at Loose-Fit Surf Shop and J's Boardsports in Braunton and with Bod @ Saunton Break and Mark @ Surfed Out at Saunton Beach.

Prizes include the highly publicised weeks holiday in France courtesy of Errant Surf, a chalet break at Saunton courtesy of Brend Hotels, a holiday break in Georgeham courtesy of Breakers, men and women wetsuits, clothing and other accessories courtesy of Billabong, surf lessons from Walking On Waves, clothing from Loose-Fit, Massage from Jules Templeton, Rhino Board bag and Surf Books from A1Surf, Eighties style Skateboard from Casacocina plus vouchers from some of the best eating places in North Devon – The Corner Bistro in Braunton, The Rock @ Georgeham, The Thatch @ Croyde and Wild Thyme in Braunton.
